My Most Anticipated Books of 2024 I Can’t Wait to Read

If you’re anything like me, you’re already getting your most anticipated books of 2024 list together—in all the genres and categories. My most anticipated books of 2023 did not disappoint, so fingers crossed this upcoming year is even better!

From 2024 spring books to 2024 fall and winter books, I am definitely noticing some amazing book trends for 2024.

I really think 2024 is going to be my reading year. Not only because I’ve started a new virtual book club (hi, you should join me!), but because there are so many books I can’t wait to read in 2024.

Funny Story by Emily Henry

• Anticipated 2024 Book Club Pick

It’s no secret I’m an Emily Henry girlie, and Funny Story sounds 👏🏼 so 👏🏼 good. Of all the books coming out in 2024, this one might be my most anticipated. If the emotion is anything like Happy Place, I know I’m going to love it (pssst, here’s my Happy Place book review!).

This is one of my anticipated 2024 book club books. I just think Emily Henry’s books have everything you could ever want in a book club pick: funny, sweet, nostalgia, excellent characters you love and hate, heavier themes mixed with fun banter—there’s something for everyone!

From what I’ve gathered, Women of Good Fortune is a fun, entertaining, heartwarming story with female empowerment, familial expectations, and FRENEMIES. What more could you want?

Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

I LOVED Nora Goes Off Script—it was the perfect adorable romance—so I’m hopeful for Annabel Monaghan’s newest book, Summer Romance. Obviously, this is going to be perfect for that most anticipated books summer 2024 reading list.

I’ve heard that the characters are soo endearing, but that this definitely isn’t a plot-driven novel. That doesn’t bother me at all, but it might not be for some readers!

Here’s the synopsis:

I’m pretty sure an Abby Jimenez book is an auto-read for most romance readers! It seems like family dysfunction and social media will play quite a role in Just for the Summer, and I’m excited to see what happens!

Blue Sisters sounds like it just might break me, but the reviews so far are phenomenal, so I really have no choice but to endure the tears, haha! A good sister story is always a favorite of mine.

Goodbye Birdie Greenwing by Ericka Waller

Okay, we’ve got another tear-jerker on our hands, but Goodbye Birdie Greenwing is going to be worth it, I think. At the time I’m writing this, this book has 5 stars on Goodreads. Unlikely friendships, immersive story . . . sign me up!

• Anticipated 2024 Book Club Pick

The Heiress is on so many readers’ anticipated 2024 books list! It’s everywhere right now. I’m excited to go to an author event at my local bookstore when this book comes out. As far as thrillers go, this one sounds amazing.

The Heiress is definitely one of my anticipated 2024 book club books—mainly because thrillers make for fun discussion.

My favorite thing about the Bookclubs app for my virtual book club is that we can stay connected throughout the month and participate in spoiler-free discussion via reading schedules and live chats and polls!

This is going to make our collective reading experience so much better—especially for a twisty thriller!

I really enjoyed All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham, and I think If You’re Lucky will be a good thriller, too. Happy to add this one to my suspense reading list for 2024!

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren

These authors can write 👏🏼 a 👏🏼 romance 👏🏼 ! I have to say, of all the Christina Lauren books, The Paradise Problem sounds the most interesting to me. I’m really hooked on this premise!

• Anticipated 2024 Book Club Pick

I’ve already started reading Family, Family (thank you NetGalley and Henry Holt & Company for my advanced reader copy!), and I am loving it so far. Laurie Frankel is so talented at writing complex character dynamics. I think this book will be an amazing book club pick for 2024.

I’m tucking this one away for a rainy day. Margo’s Got Money Troubles is supposed to be a sweet, funny, heartwarming rom-com in 2024.

I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea so much, so I’m so ready for book #2. I don’t have a lot of anticipated series in 2024, but Somewhere Beyond the Sea is definitely a sequel I can’t wait to read.

After reading Things You Save in a Fire (which I hear isn’t even her best one!), I have decided Katherine Center is pretty much an auto-read for me. *Sigh* but I do need to read her other books . . . anyway. The Rom-Commers looks simply delightful. Definitely among my most anticipated books of 2024.

I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like The Queen of Sugar Hill. This is fiction, but it’s based on the life of Hattie McDaniel and her struggle after winning the Academy Award for her portrayal of Mammy in Gone with the Wind.

The Takeover has the enemies to lovers trope, and apparently this one is a page turner with well-crafted characters (even side characters!). Oh, and *squeal* characters in their thirties, which we looooove.

Invisible Woman by Katia Lief

Invisible Woman sounds 👏🏼 so 👏🏼 good 👏🏼 . It’s a dark, gritty psychological thriller, and the fact that it’s set against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement has totally intrigued me.

• Anticipated 2024 Book Club Pick

The Cemetery of Untold Stories looks like a creative, poignant book about the beauty of literature. Let’s just say Julia Alvarez takes “killing your darlings” to a whole new level! And because this is magical realism of Latinx literature, she blurs the lines between fact and fiction.

I love discussing books like this in book club! There’s so much to learn from other readers, especially when there’s a lot to unpack from the author’s history or genre. I know I’ll get more out of my reading experience by chatting with my book club about this book.

I absolutely love Silvia Moreno-Garcia and her writing style. Mexican Gothic was an all-time favorite of mine. The Seventh Veil of Salome is a historical epic that sounds so good, especially set against the backdrop of the Golden Age Hollywood. This is definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2024.

Any time I see Kevin Kwan’s name, it’s a yes from me. I loved Crazy Rich Asians, and I feel like I’ve been trying to find something similar since that series came out. I’m excited to see what this girl-next-door story, Lies and Weddings, will be like—with all the familial expectations and wild opulence.

I Cheerfully Refuse by Leif Enger

I mean, obviously Leif Enger is an auto-author for me. This is definitely one of my top ones on my most anticipated books 2024 list. Peace Like a River is one of my all-time favorite books!

As a busy mom and mood reader, my reading life can be kind of chaotic. But since starting a virtual book club on Bookclubs, I feel like the mental load of facilitating group discussions, selecting books, and encouraging engagement throughout the month is much easier to manage.
